Our salmon eggs were delivered yesterday and they are now in the tank in a small basket. There are 200 chum salmon eggs in our tank. Each day we will be checking the eggs, the water and the temperature. We will watch their development over time. We were so excited to see the eggs and learn about the eyes. The eggs do not like the light at this stage, so the eyes would dart away as soon as they saw the light and us. This was super neat to see.
This morning, we Face Timed with Mme McIntyre's class at Deep Cove Elementary. Her class is a grade 3/4 French Immersion class, and we had some vocab questions about salmon for them. A strategy we are working on, if you don't know the answer to something... what can you do. Today we practiced asking friends at another school.
We learned that Salmon in French is Saumon.
We learned that eggs in French is oeuf or oeufs.
We learned that swim in French is nager.
They asked us about our release. We shared that we will be releasing our Salmon in Goldstream. We learned that they will be releasing their salmon at Tatlow Creek, which is only one block from their school. How neat!
What a fabulous experience both the Salmon and the live conversation with older students at another school.
