We started off our day with morning exploration. We continued with our King and Queen self-portraits, today's step was beginning to add paint details. After snack and outdoor play time, we came in for Brain Gym, Morning Message, Calendar and singing. We then worked in our journals with a special surprise of Easter stickers. Our job was to create a scene using the Easter stickers and label and write the names of the objects in our pictures. We then worked on creating a short sentence in French, orally, to share. We recorded ourselves speaking and took photographs of ourselves holding our work. This all went into being part of a digital class book that we are making, using the 'app': Book Creator. After lunch, we went on a community walk to the Spirit Garden. Here we had time to walk through with our partner, looking for changes and different signs of spring. We then had a group discussion about what we had seen. Next, we were challenged with using the ipads in small groups to take a photo of something new that we had seen today, and do a journal entry using the ipad. We then had lots of free exploration time to play and explore around the garden. We then came back for our music class.
We started off our day with morning exploration. We were invited to draw portraits of ourselves as Kings and Queens this morning, using oil pastels. After outdoor play, we came in for the Ophelia Project. Which is a Social Skills program that focuses on positive relationships, anti-bullying, confidence and play for young children. We will be taking part in this project for this term with all the kindergarten children. Our children were divided up in to a male group and a female group, with stories that are relatable to each gender. Our focus today was surrounding yourself with people who make yourself feel good about yourself. The story involved an aggressor and a target. We talked a lot about what to do if you are the target, and different strategies you can use. We then went to the gym, with all our kindergarten friends, for primary stations. After lunch and outdoor play, we came in for show and tell and literacy choice time. We then listened to the Emperor's New clothes story to tie in to our castle study. We drew our favourite part in the story. We went outside for exploration time, and practiced spelling our names with found nature items.
Welcome back to all families and children! I hope everyone enjoyed the Spring Break and made lots of great memories.
We are super excited about castle learning, as I explained yesterday in our Class Update Email. We spent the first part of our morning in exploration time. Lots of us were drawing and colouring castles, some of us were looking at books and listening to stories. After snack and outdoor play, we came in for Brain Gym, Morning Message, Calendar and some measurement math activities. We went on a hunt around the room to find objects that are smaller than a pencil. The children were using pencils as their measurement device and had the chance to share (in French) one object they found. We then transitioned into looking at a book about castles and noticing the shapes we see in the structures of castles. We brainstormed: triangles, circles, squares, rectangles, prisms, cones, pyramids, and U shaped (windows, arches). We then had the chance to look with a partner through a book to find these shapes. Next, we worked individually to draw and create our own castle using some of the shapes we had discussed. Next, we traced the drawings in black and painted them with the tempera block paints. They look great! After lunch and outdoor recess time, we walked to the spirit garden across the street. We looked and smelled to notice changes since our last visit. We then listened to a story about a King in his castle, it was funny! We had some free exploration and play time. It is so nice to see the children exploring outdoors in a safe and beautiful environment. We then had a surprise delivery, a HUGE box to use to build a castle with. Thank you to the family that shared this, we are SO excited. We then had music class. We ended the day with Montre et Racontre. *A reminder that show and tell is to be something found or made this term. *If you have anything you would like to share in respect to castles, medieval, kings/queens/royalty, knights, guards... we are very interested in it! Happy 100th day of school, we were welcomed by a big banner and streamers at the class door! We started off our day with morning exploration, lots of us were excited about beading from yesterday afternoon and worked on wire and string beading projects. We then counted as a group to celebrate 100th day. After snack and outdoor play, we came in and made 100 cheerio necklaces, this took us almost an hour! We counted in groups of tens to string them on. We also visited computers with Mme Sunny where we used the ipads to go on a nature hunt and do photography. After lunch, we had a visit from Paul et Suzanne. We then had quiet literacy bag time. We then participated in kindergarten 100th day stations. We were divided into three groups, and mixed with our other kindergarten friends. In Mrs. Gronotte's class we made 100th day crowns, in Ms Trinh's class we did building with 100 cups, blocks, straws, etc., in Mme Rebecca's class we did 100 dot painting with q-tips and 10 different colours. It was a great afternoon.
Happy March everyone! March!? Time is flying! We had a lovely day today. We started off with morning exploration, lots of playing, building, writing, painting.... After outdoor recess, we came in for Brain Gym, Morning Message and Calendar. Instead of going to the gym today, we went on a walk to a forest park near by. The level of play was fantastic! No toys, no playground structure, just our friends, the woods and our imaginations! My favourite time was seeing them run around in excitement for the first five minutes beaming with huge smiles. Lots of neat treasures were found, we decided on bringing home one item (max) each, so that nature is still left for others to enjoy. After lunch, we had show and tell and a visit from Paul et Suzanne. Paul et Suzanne have been asking us oral French questions. Today's question was about where everyone went over the weekend. We then had literacy choice time. We then looked at our potato bulbs. We did a brainstorm about what we know about potatoes, and we estimated how many potatoes will grow from each bulb. We then went outside and sat in the sun and did observational drawings of the bulbs, and practiced writing 'les pommes de terre'. We also drew the potato bulbs with chalk on the pavement. We came in and planted the bulbs in a big tub in the classroom. We will be doing lots of observations on the potato plants. They begin inside for a few weeks, and once we start to see green leafs coming up, we will then find the right time to move them out in to the court yard.
