After recess and outdoor play, we came in for Brain Gym and our Calendar Routine. We then did some alphabet sounds and songs. The librarian was dressed up in costume. We did poems, a couple of songs, a game and listened to a story. No books were borrowed this week. Library will be back to normal next week. After lunch and outdoor play, we had a special visit from Sara, Samuel's mum. Sara took us to the river at the back of the field to talk about the creek. We learned about how storms and rainfall can make the river higher, and change how the grass and leaves look. We learned about the different trees, insects and fish that could be found in our creek, crayfish even! We also talked about how cars, dirt and pollution changes the water found in the creek. Mme Sara showed us some of her tools she uses to check and test the water. This was very interesting, Thank you Mme Sara. We ended our afternoon with show and tell, a veggie snack and music class.

Today we tried something new. We went to the far end of the play field to the small trees and just played. Lots of imaginative play took place, which was my goal. *Reminder Photo Day: Thursday October 23rd *Reminder Library Books must be back tomorrow in order for your child to take out a new book. Halloween Book: We have a little song that goes with our books. We each are creating a short book about key French vocab words for Halloween. Together we read through the book and then complete a drawing to go with the vocab word. This morning we worked on 'Une araignée' (spider) and this afternoon we worked on 'Chauve-souris' (bat). This will help us with the vocab and then with a drawing as a visual aid to remember the word. Youtube French Halloween song links: C'est l'Halloween: (It's Halloween) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYfmQ5eAQlg Les chanson des squelettes: (The skeleton song) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CKMaRwicSg What a busy couple of days! We have been having our usual morning routine, cut a bit short due to early dismissal and early lunch time. Yesterday we visited the gym and today we had computer time, both with Mme Sunny.
We had an earthquake drill today. We first talked about what kind of feeling or noise an earthquake would make. We then talked about our safety plan for what we would do in the case of an earthquake. We would DUCK under the table COVER our heads and necks HOLD on to a table leg We then had time for questions and concerns to come up. Some questions that were more related to why we have earthquakes I directed to be discussed with your families. This may come up this evening. We then had Mme Lee talk over the system about the drill and how we were all going to practice. She then shook a box with some blocks in it to create a the shaking noise. We were so good at this next part, we DUCKED, COVERED and HELD. We continued until the shaking stop, we then continued as we counted to 60, waited 10 seconds and counted again. We then pointed to the area we would line up and leave the building. We remained calm, quiet and helped count. Bravo to everyone! Mme Waters (our librarian) read us a story and explained that each week we will get to choose 1 French book to borrow. We were then given our library cards, that double as space holders when you are looking for a book! We had the chance to choose our book, line up to check it out and then look at it on the carpet. After, we came back to class for a movement break and a story about 'How it feels to be cared for'. After lunch and outdoor play, we came in for Show and Tell and a visit from Paul et Suzanne.
