We have been busy inquiring about Christmas trees. We started out by doing a group brainstorm about our knowledge about Christmas trees. This led us into researching about what characteristics do Christmas trees (the ones we cut down) have before they become decorated in our homes. We used many books from the library to research with and discovered that most Christmas trees are green, they are a triangular overall outline shape, have a stump and are not TOO tall! We then did an art activity practicing drawing the outlines of Christmas tress in a snowy forest! Drawing and cutting out triangles was tricky for some of us! These turned out beautifully and are displayed on our hallway bulletin board. Next, we worked together to share our wonders and questions about Christmas tress through another group brainstorm. A big chunk of our questions were about how trees grow. Mme Rebecca thought it would be best to ask our questions to experts, a great way of researching! So, we Face Timed with a Grade 1/2 class at Deep Cove School who are experts in trees because they are just learning about forests and the tree life cycle! They answered so many of our questions and it was such a neat experience to ask local experts via webcam!
We are now busy creating many Christmas trees and partaking in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) Christmas tree activities and challenges! Oh what fun!
