This week we have been busy in some new areas around our classroom.
We have been exploring and drawing our observations at our new gem and mineral station.
We have been experimenting with our Stop Annimation studio, some children are beginniung to create short movies. Remember that these movies are created using still photos and the app, Stop Motion, melds them together to create a movie. It has been taking pairs of children about 30 minutes to set up a scence and take 30 photographs, which makes about 6 seconds of movie. We have then been looping the clip four times and adding a music track of their choice using iMovie. I will post them to their Fresh Grade portfolios if they make one. Enjoy!
We have been inquiring about Penguins. On Monday, we started by brainstorming facts we think we know about penguins and drawing a title page for our mini inquiry book.

Yesterday we did some more thinking and looking at non-fiction penguins books to come up with something we wonder and would like to know about penguins. Each child came up with a wonder and together, we used the Padlet app to create another type of brainstorming web. Here are our wonders:
Today we will be watching a live feed cam of penguins in California at an aquarium. Mme Rebecca is on the hunt for a more natural live feed, but this is pretty neat way to start out. We will be drawing our observations in our books. This will help us to have a clear image about what a penguin looks like.
We are focusing more on our letters and numbers this term. We will still be having our quiet time each afternoon, but it will be a little bit more structured in the sense of having either a literacy or numeracy hands-on and exploration focus. I will be posting photographs on Fresh Grade to give you a clear idea of what I am referring to.
We have been busy beading, painting, creating, playing in our hot chocolate cafe, singing, reading Paul et Suzanne and practicing answering and asking simple phrases in French.
