We have been busy creating an art project for a special celebration later on this week. We have been busy learning and building schools and exploring outdoors with the ipads in nature.
Yesterday we had a busy day.
We started off with morning exploration time. After snack and outdoor play, we came in for a special activity with Mme Sunny in our classroom. Mme Sunny has recently introduced us to 'Sheldon the Sphero'. Sheldon is a ball that is controlled by an app on the iPad. Yes, our five and six year olds are learning to CODE. This is a great introduction to robotics and coding for young children. The children have had the chance to each move and control Sheldon and use the iPad as a remote. Yesterday, we challenged them to create pathways, mazes, ramps and tunnels for Sheldon to go through. There was so much problem solving, discussions, building and rebuilding going on. Our room was buzzing with creativity and excitement. Here is a link if you would like to know more about Sphero balls:

We had gym with our kindergarten friends were we practiced balancing, throwing, catching, weaving, guiding using hockey sticks and cooperative teamwork. After lunch, we had time for a story and some literacy choice time. We then worked on our George Jay School Inquiry Project. Children are busy designing schools out of cardboard and Styrofoam, making a clay bird's eye view of the school floor plan, drawing up plans to make a mini digger, creating parts of the playground which they plan on using in Puppet Pals to make a short presentation, and much more! We then walked to the spirit garden and had free exploration time. Some children did the journals on the ipads by taking photographs and using invented spelling to write.
Today we had morning exploration time, and then we joined Ms. Moore's class for some singing. We then had outdoor play and snack time. After we came in for Calendar. We then did some journaling and surprised Mrs. McPhee with a special Journal birthday presentation. We all wrote in our journals for her and Mme Rebecca put our work into a short slideshow video. She was so happy and said that it made her Birthday so very special. We then went outside for some exploration time in the meadow. After lunch, we had literacy choice time, a story and show and tell. We had some children practice their reading in French. We then had a group discussion about appropriate language to use at school (ie, no bathroom talk) and keeping our hands to ourselves (not hitting others, especially on private parts) and that in the bathrooms we must respect others' privacy. We then visited the music class for our final Aboriginal Drumming workshop.
*Tomorrow is library day and children are invited to bring 25 cents to purchase popcorn as a fundraiser for Nepal.
