Welcome back to all families and children! I hope everyone enjoyed the Spring Break and made lots of great memories.
We are super excited about castle learning, as I explained yesterday in our Class Update Email. We spent the first part of our morning in exploration time. Lots of us were drawing and colouring castles, some of us were looking at books and listening to stories. After snack and outdoor play, we came in for Brain Gym, Morning Message, Calendar and some measurement math activities. We went on a hunt around the room to find objects that are smaller than a pencil. The children were using pencils as their measurement device and had the chance to share (in French) one object they found. We then transitioned into looking at a book about castles and noticing the shapes we see in the structures of castles. We brainstormed: triangles, circles, squares, rectangles, prisms, cones, pyramids, and U shaped (windows, arches). We then had the chance to look with a partner through a book to find these shapes. Next, we worked individually to draw and create our own castle using some of the shapes we had discussed. Next, we traced the drawings in black and painted them with the tempera block paints. They look great! After lunch and outdoor recess time, we walked to the spirit garden across the street. We looked and smelled to notice changes since our last visit. We then listened to a story about a King in his castle, it was funny! We had some free exploration and play time. It is so nice to see the children exploring outdoors in a safe and beautiful environment. We then had a surprise delivery, a HUGE box to use to build a castle with. Thank you to the family that shared this, we are SO excited. We then had music class. We ended the day with Montre et Racontre.
*A reminder that show and tell is to be something found or made this term.
*If you have anything you would like to share in respect to castles, medieval, kings/queens/royalty, knights, guards... we are very interested in it!
