We started off our day with morning exploration and an invitation to create lines, patterns and symmetry on our new discovery table. We then had our welcome song and daily check in. After snack and outdoor play time, we came in for Brain Gym and Calendar. We then went to the gym with Mme Sunny. After gym, we talked about how our bodies are electric, and how we can connect together to move in to our best learning brain, the child's brain. We talked about how the middle part of our brain, as some of us refer to as the mammalian brain (think, like a cat!) often has us reacting without thinking and processing what just happened. For instance, if someone were to hit us, we would immediately hit them back.. just like cats do. Brain Gym can help us move in to our best learning brain, the child's brain... but we have to do it properly! Part of doing it properly with each movement is to stay connected. Mme Rebecca brought in a special tube that allowed us to demonstrate with hand holding how we all carry electric currents within us. We all held hands and the tube turned on with lights and noise, but when one person lets go (breaks the circuit) it stops. We also tried it with two of the people in the circle putting their hand in to water and it still worked!! Very exciting. After lunch and show and tell, we listened to a story and then had free literacy choice time. We then had a visit from Paul et Suzanne. After, we talked about how it feels to be at school and what are our jobs when we are here. We brainstormed a list of things we are remembering to do when we are at school. We then grouped them in to three main groups: Being respectful (listening, looking), Being Safe (hands to ourselves and walking feet) and Helping (helping others and filling up others' buckets). We then all signed our name and agreed we would do our best to keep working on these main points when we are at school, this will help us to learn. We then had free exploration play time, and we all begun to paint our tube snakes that we will be making as an art project!
We have been talking about Remembrance day. Tomorrow we will be having a school assembly in honour of Remembrance day and what it means to us. Our class has made a wreath with poppies that will be laid at the ceremony tomorrow. We have also been working on creating giant poppies as artwork. We have been busy painting the paper, cutting out the poppy, gluing and collaging details to make it a mixed media artwork. Here are some photos of the process and the final product. This is an artwork that focuses more on the process than the final product.
We started off our day with morning exploration. Lots of us were excited to look at out snake pictures from yesterday, learn and write about snakes and play in the snake block area. We started to think about what snakes may eat... Mme Rebecca wrote down our quotes and ideas of what we all think they eat! This was really neat! We then had our welcome song and daily check in. We practiced our new Snake Poem as a class. After snack and outdoor play, we came in for Brain gym and our calendar routine. We then practiced our Snake Poem again, and two friends tried saying it on their own! Bravo! We then visited the library and listened to a French story about two neighbors, one who was trying to read a book in his apartment and the other who was being TOO noisy! We then chose a book to borrow for the week. We came back and did a letter hunt for the letter C. We had a quick story time before lunch. After lunch and outdoor play, we went and visited the Bowker Creek area. We compared the river to the last time we had seen it. We noticed that it was running much faster today than last week. We tried dropping leaves on one side, and running to the other side of the bridge to see how quickly they would float past! We then had some free time to play in the tree nature area, we played imaginative games and collected nature items. We came in for Show and Tell, and we had a visit from Mme Lee. Mme Lee did a friendship activity with us that helped introduce each other as our friend. She also introduced the idea of saying 'warm fuzzies' to our friends to make them feel good about themselves. We then went to music class.
Wow, November is here! We started this morning with free play exploration time. Lots of us talked and learned about snakes. Some of us were using books to learn and write with, others were drawing and painting where they think snakes might live. Some of us were playing with our tree blocks and building houses for snakes. This was wonderful to see! We will be doing an inquiry project about snakes for the month of November. We then had our welcome song and a daily check in. After snack and outdoor play time, we came in for calendar and brain gym. We switched our calendar and talked about our upcoming month. We learned a new poem, using the 'Ssss' sound and it is about snakes. We then went to the gym with our friends from Mrs. Gronotte's class. We did some movement activities and then played a few cooperative team games. After lunch and outdoor play, we came in for Montre et Racontre. We then went to a school assembly, it was a SOAR presentation. SOAR stands for Safe, Organized, Accountable and Responsible or Respectful. Students were recognized for these areas, a few from each class. This was our first time, so we did not have anyone recognized in Kindergarten... but we will next time! It was lovely to hear about what other children in our school are working on and accomplishing. We came back for our choice literacy relax time. Some of us were drawing and lots of us were reading today. We then looked at some of the illustrations of where some of our friends think snakes live! Some of us think in the jungle, the desert, the forest, California, Scotland, near our houses even! We then had free exploration time. Some of us chose to work in the snake discovery area, others in the snake building habitats area and others drew more about where we think snakes may live.
